  • ‚SQUARE OF OBLIVION‘

Magnetic tapes from VHS cassettes are hanging from the ceiling forming a square space. The images remain invisible, symbolic for a medium that is already history. The content, the documentaries about the colonial period, are transformed into the present in various ways: a projection shows people working on the streets of Havana, a city very much influenced by the colonialism.

The square shape of the installation refers to the mathematical problem of “squaring the circle”. An unsolvable task. The title is derived from that and questions our approach to the theme of forgetting.
